Consciousness is the one thing that you know with 100% certainty.
Even if life were nothing but a dream, a hallucination, even then, we could still be certain of consciousness.
To doubt it is to prove its existence.
It thus sits as the ground of all being.
And if you are a non-dualist, then consciousness must be the fundamental substrate of reality itself.
But how can we know if this is true?
Well, if consciousness is the fundamental reality—meaning that everything is in consciousness and composed of it—then directing our attention back to that very consciousness should be transformative, as it would connect us with this fundamental reality.
This is where our meditation takes us.
Today, we will point our consciousness back on itself, consciousness being aware of consciousness.
Pointing Your Awareness Back on Itself
Today, we will point our consciousness back on itself, consciousness being aware of consciousness.
3 Steps: Vimarsha
I.
Come to the present moment right now.
Take a deep breath in, exhale, and relax.
Abide in the present moment.
II.
Now ask,
“Who is the one who is looking?”
“Who is the one who perceives?”
Can you find that one?
Can you be aware of the perceiver?
Now, try to put your attention and awareness back on the consciousness that is perceiving.
III.
Find that pure awareness, that consciousness, and abide here.
Notice how it’s self-aware. Aware and aware of itself.
Abide in this pure awareness.
